Roulette is a game of chance where players place bets on individual numbers or groups of numbers. The game revolves around a wheel and a ball that is spun by a croupier.
There are many different types of bets in roulette, including inside bets, outside bets and announced bets. All bets come with different odds and payouts, so it’s important to know what you’re betting on before putting your money down.
Inside Bets:
Inside bets are the most common type of bet in roulette and include both single-number and multi-number bets. These bets have a higher house edge than outside bets, so they are usually better for newer players who want to minimize their risks.
Split Bet:
A split bet consists of placing your chips on two adjacent numbers, and you can win either one or the other. You will win 17-1 if the first number wins and 11-1 if the second number wins.
Street Bet:
A street bet is similar to a split bet, but you place your chip(s) on the outside of a row of numbers. If the entire row wins, you will win the same amount as a split bet.
Line Bet:
A line bet consists of placing your chips on the edge of a horizontal row of numbers. You can win the same amount as a street bet, or you can win a larger sum if the entire row wins.
Six Number Bet:
The six number bet is a very popular betting combination in roulette and pays out 5-1. You can bet on any three of the following numbers: 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Neighbours Bets
The neighbours bet is a very popular announced bet in roulette and covers five numbers. This bet is available in most online roulette variations, though not all of them.
Le Tiers Du Cylindre:
The tiers du cylindre bet is another announced bet in roulette and covers quite a lot of numbers. It’s located opposite to the Voisins du Zero on the roulette wheel and covers 12 numbers – from 27 to 33.
Dozens Bet:
The douzaine bet is a bet that you can win even money by betting on the winning number being in the first dozen or in the second and third dozens. This bet is very popular in French roulette, and it’s also very easy to understand.
Odd or Even:
The odd or even bet is another bet that is very popular in French roulette and can pay out even money if the winning number is an even number or an odd number.
Neither the 0 nor 00 count for this bet, so it’s very popular with beginner players.
The wheel in a roulette game has divisions that are numbered from 1 to 36 in a seemingly random pattern with alternate red and black color. There is also a green division numbered 0. This extra color has become a big issue for American casino owners and it’s the reason that their version of the game has a much lower house edge than European versions.
