Roullete is a casino game of chance played on a table with a rotating wheel and a betting grid. Players place chips directly on the table, in various groups of numbers or colors, until the dealer announces “No more bets.” Then the wheel spins and the ball drops, and all bets are locked in.
The main types of bets are called inside and outside. Inside bets are placed on specific numbers or small number combinations within the main betting grid (1-36). They offer higher payouts but lower chances of winning. Outside bets are placed on red or black, odd or even, or a grouping of numbers by dozen (1-12, Premiere douzaine or P12), second (12-24, Moyenne douzaine or M12) or third (25-36, Derniere douzaine or D12). All outside bets lose if a 0 is spun.
The odds of hitting a single number on a straight-up bet are 37 to 1, but the house pays only 35 to 1. This difference is how the casino gets its edge. In addition, players can also use a strategy known as the Martingale System to recoup losses and gain a small profit, but this can quickly bankrupt players who don’t manage their money properly.
